U.S. Precision Armory
Frequently Asked Questions
Why don't you produce other calibers in your Premium Quality Target Ammunition line?
US Military surplus brass cases and once fired commercial cases are used to produce these loads. These components are not readily available for other calibers.
Why should I pay more for your target ammo than what surplus ammo cost?
US Military surplus Ball ammo and Match ammo have been good values, when available for true surplus prices. If you want to shoot and this is not available, U.S. Precision Armory offers a cost effective alternative.
Why do you produce so many different grades of ammunition?
Casual target practice and some bench rest shooting does not demand the precision required in match shooting or have the life or death consequences of tactical shooting. We try to produce ammunition that fits your requirements. Ultra Match and Precision Tactical ammo can be expensive but are good values if you require extreme precision - if not, we have other grades available for those shooters with different requirements.
Why don't I see your ammo at sporting goods store?
Our ammunition is not mass produced and we don't compete with major manufacturers. You may find our products at specialty dealers that sell high end match shooting products or police supply stores.
Are once fired brass cases good enough for accurate match shooting?
Once fired brass cases, US Military or commercial, require much preparation to make them suitable for precision use. These cases need to be cleaned, inspected, and deprimed. Also, the primer crimp (if any) has to be removed and the primer pocket leveled. The flash hole must be reamed for uniformity. Additionally, the cases must be resized, trimmed to length, chamfered, and polished. The last step is to weigh and sort by weight variations. If all this preparation is done correctly, once fired cases are not only suitable for precision use but also have an advantage over new cases in that they are completely fire-formed. U.S. Precision Armory uses once fired cases that have been prepared in this manner for some match ammunition.
Is ammo that has spots or stains on the brass cases safe to use?
Once fired brass cases, US Military or commercial, may show slight discoloration or dark spots resembling freckles even after cleaning and polishing. This is very normal and expected. These visual defects may be the result of storage before the brass was processed and reused. As long as the brass does not show signs of active corrosion, cracks, checks, or severe dents, it will usually pass inspection for use. For nothing more that pure aesthetics, we may reject brass cases that do not clean and polish to at least 95% of new brass finish.
How do I purchase your ammo?
Contact our dealers or U.S. Precision Armory to purchase our products. Small quantity orders may be filled from inventory (see notice on the HOME PAGE). Large quantity orders will have the most lead time for production. Orders are shipped in the order that they were received except that we do make regular shipments against standing orders the we are constantly producing. These standing orders are our highest priority shipments and will be filled before other orders.
Can I reload the brass that you use in your ammunition?
Yes. We only use new boxer primed brass cases or once fired boxer primed brass cases. The preparation that goes into the brass cases that we use makes them very desirable for reloading.
